Muscle Measurements – taking body tape measurements with Arnold Schwarzenegger

How do I take my measurements? If you are serious about your progress all you need is yourself and a tape measure, we suggest you take measurements on a monthly basis. Take your measurements the same every time  (morning/evening) you take them and you will get an accurate view of your progress with each body part.

Neck – Standing, measure your neck at its largest girth, right over the Adam’s apple.

Shoulder – Standing, can either be measured as a straight line from the largest points on each shoulder across the chest or as a girth measurement all the way around the body.

Bicep - Measure at its largest girth, can be taken relaxed with arms at side, relaxed with arm bent, flexed with arm bent or all three.

Chest - Standing, measure with breath out just above the nipple.

Waist - Standing, measure at the narrowest point or at the midway point between the top of the hip bone and the bottom of the rib cage.

Hips - Measure at the largest girth, where the butt is protruding the greatest.

Thigh - Standing, measure at the largest girth, just below the butt.

Calf - Seated if you are measuring yourself or standing if you have a partner, measure at its largest girth.

Daily Exercise and Diet Tips – Compound exercises

Compound exercises

Instead of isolating your muscles with exercises such as the bicep curl, you can maximize the time you spend in a workout by doing exercises that work out multiple muscle groups at once. With just a few exercises, you could get a full-body workout. Another benefit is that your muscles are working together as they do in the real world, rather than alone.

Using more muscle groups. . .

- means more calories burned during exercise.
- simulates real-world exercises and activities.
- allows you to get a full body workout faster.
- improves coordination, reaction time and balance.
- improves joint stability and improves muscle balance across a joint.
- decreases the risk of injury during sports.
- keeps your heart rate up and provides cardiovascular benefits.
- allows you to exercise longer with less muscle fatigue.
- allows you to lift heavier loads and build more strength.

Some great compound exercises include the ones below and much much more.

- Squat
- Lunge
- Lunge with a Twist
- One-Leg Squat-and-Reach
- Deadlift
- Kettlebell Swings
- Shoulder Press
- Pull Down
- Pull Ups
- Push Ups
- Chest Press
- Dips
- Jumping Rope

The Top 3 Mass Building Exercises

Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger Building Mass Videos

1. Squat

In strength training, the squat is an exercise that trains primarily the muscles of the thighs, hips and buttocks, as well as strengthening the bones, ligaments and insertion of the tendons throughout the lower body. Squats are considered a vital exercise for increasing the strength and size of the legs and buttocks. Despite their popularity, squats have frequently resulted in injuries to the lumbar spine and knees, requiring modification from the standard squat with an olympic bar, with multiple variants now used.

Squats are also a competitive lift in powerlifting.

2. Deadlift

The deadlift is a weight training exercise where one lifts a loaded barbell (or, in the case of the trapbar deadlift, a loaded trapbar) off the ground from a stabilized bent-over position. It is one of the three gauges of powerlifting, and is an excellent exercise for overall body development if done properly.

3. Bench Press

The bench press is a strength training exercise. While lying on their back, the person performing the bench press lowers a weight to the level of the chest, then pushes it back up until the arm is straight and the elbows locked (or close to this position). The exercise focuses on the development of the pectoralis major muscle as well as other supporting muscles including the anterior deltoids, serratus anterior, coracobrachialis, and the triceps. The bench press is one of the three lifts in the sport of powerlifting and is used extensively in weight training, bodybuilding and other types of fitness training to develop the chest.

Ryan Kwanten workout for True Blood

DOB: 28 November 1976
Ryan Kwanten is an Australian actor. Kwanten was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He began acting on the television shows A Country Practice and Spellbinder. In 1997, he joined the cast of the Australian soap opera Home and Away, playing lifeguard Vinnie Patterson. Kwanten starred on the show for several years, becoming a sex symbol.

Moving to the United States, Kwanten was cast as Jay Robertson in the Lori Loughlin-starring series Summerland, which ran from 2004 to 2005. He appeared in the films Flicka, with Maria Bello, Alison Lohman and Tim McGraw, and Dead Silence, a horror movie in which he played the leading role. In 2009 he will star in the film Don’t Fade Away with Mischa Barton and Beau Bridges.

Kwanten currently plays the role of Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, a television series based on Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries. Season 2 of True Blood began airing in June 2009.

You’re totally ripped. How much work did you have to do to get that way?
I’m somewhat of a masochist at heart. I like to sweat. I come from a very competitive sporting background—my dad was a world-champion surfer—so it’s always been a part of my DNA. I do a lot of soft-sand running, hiking, yoga, and boxing, and I compete in triathlons. But I don’t have a strict diet. If I want a beer, I’ll have a beer, and I’ve always been a chocoholic.

In the interview to Muscle & Body Magazine June 2009 he says:

“I always grew up with physical activity, so now it’s just a part of who I am,” he says. “I do a little something every day. Even when I’m working, I’ll go home and run on the soft sand at two in the morning. No matter the time, even if I have to wake up at four, I do whatever [exercise] I can. If I don’t then I’m not me.”

Then he added about yoga:

“I think it’s important to get your sweat on and to not just limit yourself to one particular sport,” he says of his varied fitness interests. “To do nothing but lift weights to me would be a quick death. Life has too many great things to offer in terms of physical exertion. I think you always need a sense of clarity, whether you get it through meditation or going for a hike, when it comes to bettering your life. It may not work for everybody, but it does for me.”

“I come from a somewhat of a macho background when it comes to sports,” says the former boxer. “When a friend of mine suggested I try yoga to help with flexibility, I said, ‘No, that’s more for the girls. It’s not my cup of tea.’ But I tried it and it beat me up.”

On how he realized that yoga was what he wanted to practice:

“That first class I was looking across the room and seeing girls and even guys putting their feet behind their heads, and I thought, Wow, that’s where I want to be. And I’m sort of naturally competitive, so once I sink my teeth into something I’m not going to let go.”

“It amazes me when people compare True Blood to Twilight. The only similarity is the fact that we both have vampires. The characters and different group dynamics that Alan manages to create and the issues that he confronts are so far beyond other vampire shows.”
